NYXTMusic Video

Watch NYXT here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ozxIhMSs85g

Beautiful women, violence and a bit of witchcraft.

It's got this feel, sexual brutality, like an 80's-slasher flick. It turns your blood up to your head and then sends it shivering back down your spine. This theme reminds me of DYE's video for "Fantasy" which shares ghoulish parallels almost a parallel video. A party that leads to violence, to a portal in a body of water.

NYXT is produced and directed by Fabio Frey and Joey Thompson of Dinobrite Productions. These guys made the infamous Rock Out with your Gamecock Out, have had videos on .Tosh, and are currently the most innovative production company in Columbia, SC (update, they work in LA currently).

I spoke with Fabio who said he and Joey have been working overtime and have made around a hundred videos now. That he wanted to take a step back from the more corporate work and do something for his own creative satisfaction.

I talked to Jazz, the girl with all the tattoos. She said that Fabio had everything prepared, all the props, all the shots "he already had everything set up, the makeup artist, all the resources, there was hardly any confusion. I mean he's a professional and I was happy to work with him...it was so much fun."

El Gincho/CANADA 's BATTLES/Ice Cream
Fabio says he admires El Guincho and drew some ideas from his work on Bombay. The use of a projector for lighting the girls, the violence and sex. Fabio also enjoys watching Miami Vice and said Nero's music video for Reaching Out was an inspiration for the 80's opening theme. The shapes, colors, type and VCR fuzz on the bottom.

Some people may find it disturbing but I appreciate that NYXT doesn't need to be absurdly offensive to grab your attention. NYXT uses tact and clever tricks: the knife in the jelly, and the girl jumping knee-first into the bathtub, the simple light atop the camera to give it that extra-freaky aesthetic like a reporter lost in an active crime scene. Oh soooo much tasty, testicle-shrinking stuff.

Love this shot because it's either part of the masochist thing going on here or it's her entering the portal.

All in all, perhaps the best thing about this video is how rewatchable it is. It gives Devereaux breathing room to brand themselves and remains open for interpretation. This is definitely setting a new standard in Columbia's Music Video scene.

Check out Devereaux's page and download their album Cacti Pace for only 99 cents a track here:

Cacti Pace is fun with wild, complex mixing that has been crafted very carefully, it's really a catch.

And check out Dinobrite Production's site. They do absolutely amazing work. http://dinobritevideo.com/
Their next project, the Gamecock Mixtape is going to have some amazing local artists rapping, singing, and the whatnot about the best city in the Carolinas so sign up to get your copy here: http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/dinobrite/the-gamecock-mixtape/posts
